All during my 40 year career as a profesional jazz saxophonist I have maintained a teaching practice. Along with private lessons (my favorite) I have taught jazz at various high schools and universities including Idyllwild Arts Academy, my current teaching position. At the academy I teach Saxophone, Jazz Combos 1 and 2, Jazz Theory 1 and 2, Jazz History, and Computer notation.
In addition to teaching jazz saxophone (which includes saxophone fundamentals) I teach improvisation for any instrument. I play clarinet, flute, piano, guitar, bass, and a bit of trumpet and trombone.
Recently, due to covid-19, I started teaching my private lessons online. I have been quite surprised at how well these lessons have been going. As long as the technology is good on both sides the experience is just as effective as in person.
